CONTEXT
Problem
Many users on the App Store and Google Play reported issues with navigation, customization, and UI in the BuzzFeed app. The most common complaints included difficulty finding the login/sign-up option, limited category and filter customization, and a cluttered article and comment layout. These issues led to negative reviews, lowering the app’s rating and discouraging new users from downloading it.
Outcome
The redesigned BuzzFeed app improves usability, customization, and user engagement. The new design ensures clear sign-up options, an intuitive article browsing experience, and enhanced filtering features for categories and comments. These updates create a seamless interaction for users, helping them stay engaged with trending content.
RESEARCH
Analyzing user reviews and the app's structure confirmed the validity of these concerns. The sign-up option was missing during login, categories were hidden, and article pages felt cluttered. These design flaws made it difficult for users to navigate content, interact with comments, and personalize their experience.

The homepage prioritizes trending/popular topics for easy browsing.
Category selection is more prominent for a tailored experience.

Peer Reviews
To gather valuable feedback, I conducted peer reviews by having a peer navigate through my working mid-fidelity prototype and provide insights based on a set of usability-focused questions. Their feedback helped identify areas for improvement, including navigation clarity, feature discoverability, and overall user flow. The review process provided fresh perspectives on how intuitive the redesign felt, whether key features were easily accessible, and if any elements needed further refinement before moving forward with high-fidelity designs.
